Troodos Mountains

When Cyprus reaches its highest temperatures during the hot summer months there is nothing better than a day, or two, discovering Troodos. The mountains reach an altitude of over 1,950 metres and are very refreshing with its crystal clear air. The lush green slopes of the Troodos mountains are truly something, dotted with tiny villages, forest paths, and ancient monasteries. They are many picturesque villages, some with their own specialised local handicraft, such as Lefkara, famous for its lace & silver. It is very common to find the Lefkara ladies sat together on the street working with lace. The most famous monastery is Kykko with its wealth of gold adorning the walls and high ceilings. Park the car and go for a stroll through the pine scented forest and discover a silent world.
There is usually good snowfall in the mountains between January and March. The Cyprus Ski Club has four Ski-lifts on Mount Olympus, two on the north face, which have lengths of 350 m and 500 m and two at Sun Valley, each 150 m long. Ski equipment can be hired at very reasonable rates.
